Theme of the Amsterdam Light Festival

Every year, the festival casts a spotlight on the city. This year, the artists were inspired by the theme:

DISRUPT!

Disruption is the main focus of the exhibition marking the eighth edition of the Amsterdam Licht Festival. 650 artists, designers and architects were given the challenge to work with this theme to create works of light art that examine, test and shake up the city of Amsterdam and its environs.
Artists have an important part because they visualise disruption, reflect on it and offer criticism on it. And not only that: a work of art can itself be a disruption that can take you by surprise. These 21 artists have interpreted the theme Disrupt! in all sorts of ways.
Some installations are playful interventions of street life; other artists have transformed some of the city's existing architecture with their light art, forcing you to see it with new eyes.
